This article is basically about Denmark and how they are on the verge of becoming 100% alternative eneergy country. According to the article, many big companies like Siemens and Vestas are booming there, providing alternative energy sources. The country uses many different types of energy like wind, solar and hydrogen. It is predicted that in a couple of decades, this country will be the first one to be 100% reliant on renewable energy. This project is called the Lolland Hydrogen Project. Not only are they setting up alternative energy plants around the country, they are also turning the excess energy from windpower into hydrogen to be used for other things. This organization is trying to set an example for the rest of Europe and try to get them to do the same.
I think that it is great that countries are now realizing that we do not have unlimited resources and our only way to survive is going to be through alternative energy. I think that if this keeps up, others will start to catch on and try to do the same thing and try to use more aternative energy methods. Along with that, I thought it was really clever how they were using their excess wind energy to make hydrogen. With all the things that is possible with hydrogen, this idea will soon catch on and maybe one day we will all be doing what Denmark is doing now.
Do you think other countries will catch on and start using this idea?
When do you think Denmark will be completely reliant on alternative energy? why?
If you had to persuade the president to follow Denmarks ideas and use more alternative energy, how would you do it?
I think Denmark is way ahead of the game in terms of taking serious action on the topic of alternative energy. Since Denmark is a relatively small country, it makes sense for them to be more easily able to curb the reliance on fossil fuels. However, for countries like the US which have populations in the hundreds of millions or even billions, that change is going to take a lot of force. Unfortunately, I'm inclined to think that that "push" is going to come from a sharp decline in the availibility of fossil fuels which will force us into developing alternative energy. I commend Denmark for investing the extra money, not taking the easy way out, and going against the crowd in their quest for renewable energy.
ReplyDeleteIf I were to argue to the president in favor of alternative energy, this would be one of my major points. In order to avoid the economic turmoil that inevitably will result from the depletion of fossil fuels, we need to get started now. Speaking of alternative energy, my dad recently talked to me about buying cars, something that he is very passionate with. He said although he would be willing to buy a hybrid or electric car, the technology and variety of designs simply aren't there yet. This situation is reminescent of our current alternative energy scenario. Although alternatives do exist, they remain "specialty" items in the view of the general public, their cost and investment outweighing potential benefits. Development of this technology would help create a new face for alternative energy, allowing us to better prepare for the end of fossil fuels.
Denmark finally realizes how serious our energy problem is. I think it is great that Denmark has decided to go 100 percent alternate energy. Most countries still don't get the seriousness of the issue. Every single day that we are using fossil fuels, we are getting closer and closer to running out of them. Once we run out of these fuels then we wont have anything to power many of our items. I agree with you aadit, Denmark has made a excellent choice in switching over. If more and more countries follow in their footsteps then we could save out environment and our dependence on fossil fuels.
ReplyDeleteAs i read this article i tought of my mothers friend. This women is so passionate about our environment that she has gone completely green. When we stayed at her house for a weekend, i notice that the roof was covered with solar panels. Then i saw her hybrid car. When i talked to her, she said that we need to make many changes if we don't want to be dependent on fossil fuels. After doing the alternate energy activities in class. I realize how many types of ways we could produce energy. My mothers friend was just doing a couple of these ways but Denmark is compining all the methods.
I do believe that other countries will catch on and start following Denmarks actions. As time starts to go by, our fossil fuels will run out and we will be stranded without any source of energy. Countries will realize this once there are few fossil fuels left. They will then switch like Denmark did. Hopefully it won't be to late.
This is a great thing to see. Good for Denmark. They get it. Now we've got to convince our people to do that. It has got to be a world effort, so I hope that our's and other country will soon follow. These guys get it. I think that it will take small baby steps for us to be able to say the same- our government being the slow one that it is. I feel like this move from Denmark is an opportunity to change for the better. I think that we are probably going to see this happen in our life time. The generation ahead of us, the ones making the decisions of today was not born with this global idea present, and therefore, is having more trouble changing their ways. Us however, have a greater opportunity to do so because we were born with these ideas already in place. I think that while our generation starts filling up the governing body of our country, we will begin to see more and more of these baby steps in the right direction. Good for Denmark for getting there already.
ReplyDeleteI hope that more and more countries will see what they need to do because eventually, they won't have a choice and the rapid change necessary by then will be a lot harder then starting to take small steps in that direction now.
I think it's a great thing for Denmark to be the far ahead of everyone else. Of course, like Connor said it's probably easier because they're so small but I still think its fanominal what they have done. It makes me happy to know that people are starting to pick up on the fact that we are not going to be able to go on with fossil fuels for much longer. Even though it is expensive, I think people need to start making the switch. Denmark has made a good choice in this, because when everyone is frantically making the switch, Denmark will be good.
ReplyDeleteWhen I read this article, I thought about my uncle. He is looking into getting solar panels on his house, but isn't sure about it because of the expense. I am trying to convince him of making the switch though, because it's a really good investment. I think this would be beneficial to so many people if we started making the switch.
I do think other countries will catch on and start making the switch soon, because they will not have a choice. Eventually we will run out and that is going to create serious problems for us as a species, but if we start to switch now it will help that process. I think more countries will start looking into alternate energy because it will be what they need to do in order to live.
